This past weekend, the nations very best under sixteen talent made their way down to the cobblestone shores of Upper Trestles for the 2015 Rip Curl Gromsearch National Finals.
How good did they get it?
The answer is very good – giving what the pros got in round two and three in Peniche a run for it’s money, and quite possibly winning. Rip Curl rolled out the red carpet for those who qualified via the four regional GS events; webcast, live scoring, catering by Banzai Bowls and Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, and even priority in their four man (and woman) heats. Competitors tee’d off on that classic Trestles coping for the entirety of the day as the talented field of groms battled for a spot (preferably the top one) on the podium.
What did the search for the nation’s best groms yield?
Summer Macedo backed up her ISA World Jr win with a performance reminiscent of a young Carissa Moore, claiming the Girls Under 16 title. Nolan Rapoza did the right foot forward populace proud, throwing down huge scores with rhythmic ripping to earn the Boys Under 16 win. Both Eithan Osborne and young Eli Hanneman went on to win the Boys Under 14 and Under 12 divisions with dominating performances all day long.
Both the Boys and Girls Under 16 winners not only took home a pretty $500 bucks, but they also won themselves a paid way to the Rip Curl Gromsearch International Finals at an undisclosed location as part of The Search.
