THROW THE RENTAL MODEM IN THE TRASH So as far as 3rd party modem/routers combos go, this as a refurbished purchase almost feels like a steal. I’m sorry but the one star reviews are stupid, this is a PRODUCT REVIEW on HOW WELL THE PRODUCT WORKS. If you received a modem with the MAC address already being used then you have a problem with a person who sold you the unit. Anyway, I purchased this unit Refurbished from TECHARVARD, MAC address was clean. I was in the market for a DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem to eliminate the monthly $10 rental fee on a family member’s bill and I stumbled across this refurbished unit on Amazon, which was at the time of purchase less than the half the amount for a brand new one.
