Big Island man helps neighbors evacuate as massive waves pummel Kailua-Kona condos
People today are still talking about that huge wave that crashed over the roof of the two story Keauhou-Kona Surf and Racquet Club Sunday on the Big Island. The huge swell caused damage as the monster waves rolled in with the high tide. I’ve never seen those huge swells in Kailua Kona area before. We visit the Big Island often and we pay attention to the weather , wave report.
The part about people not listening got me. It’s not just teenagers, it’s fully grown adults too. Where I paddle we constantly have to tell people to move out of the way of the boat ramp and channel so wa’a and fishing boats can make it through. People ignore us, or talk back and start a fight. They also stand on the reef, bother the dolphins and sea turtles no matter how much we tell them to stop. These people are entitled, and don’t understand that we’re simply trying to protect them, ourselves and the wildlife all at the same time.
