This is Rodrigo Koxa’s World Record Setting wave of 24.4 meters (80 feet). The World Record was set in Nazare, Portugal. I had the pleasure of filming Rodrigo surf some massive waves while I was out there. I added my other footage to this video to show you guys what Rodrigo is capable of! He is a true waterman, and a total beast!

OK – that looks scary AF.

Nazare just doesn't look all that fun to me, particularly at that size. If that guy goes down… does he live?

This is where Jet-skis and tow-ropes may wind up being our suicide equipment. Sure, he's got a life vest on… but how would you feel, in the impact zone – looking helplessly at 2-5 More of those, coming at you… and no way for the Jet-skis to make a rescue?

There is a certain symmetry to paddling or swimming out to whatever you're facing. It can be a false sense of security… but at least you know that YOU had what it took to get out to a spot… that YOU caught the wave.

It seems like human limitations are exceeded by the horsepower of Jet-skis. But that is just an illusion. It is our WISDOM that is exceeded.

If the ski goes down…not too many swimmers are going to be able to make a rescue in conditions like that. You better hope that you're still alive – when you get washed in, to the beach.
