Biggest Waves I've EVER Seen at the Wedge in Newport Beach
The Wedge, Biggest Waves I’ve seen there.
I shot both Saturday July 4th and Sunday July 5th.
I watched the surf reports for a couple weeks, saw the swell but wasn’t expecting this!
I woke up way too early on Saturday July 4th to chase this swell hoping that it would at least bring overhead plus waves. The 4:30am alarm was worth it.
Surfers include: Jamie O’Brien, Blair Conklin, Brad Domke, Kenny Kuypers, Tyler Thornsley and others.
I’ve chased plenty of waves at the Wedge in Newport Beach but gotta admit, this swell brought some of the largest waves that I’ve seen there.

Sir, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, in your case behind the lens. Best coverage hands down on these 2 days. Insane crisp video and angle of attack. I grew up in NB in the 60s and 70s so know the wedge well. Beautiful coverage, thank you.

I always like to see footage of the wedge because I grew up there, but the biggest I’ve ever seen was back around 1976-77 25’-30’ foot waves with tubes so big you could fit a semi-truck in them.
It was as big or bigger el Nino 89 to 91 best part bodyboarders & bodysurfers no stick in the water.

Ive swam the wedge plenty of times. The biggest waves i swam was in a red flag day. I never knew what were the flags for. But since it was a dare how can i chicken out lol.
