Brazilian surfer catches world record on 80-foot wave

The World Surf League says Rodrigo Koxa has ridden the biggest wave ever surfed. At the group’s Big Wave Awards in Santa Monica, California, on Saturday, it said its judges determined that a wave Koxa surfed at Naraze, Portugal, on Nov. 8 was 80 feet

But… He broke his RIBS after he wiped out. Insane. Btw, I think they can only estimate the actual wave heights. His wave was 80ft, the last record was at 78ft or some such shit.

Kind of looks like he's surfing down the side of a mountain. But how does one differentiate between a 78 and 80 foot wave?? Can they make measurements that exact?
