History of the Balancing Toy
Balancing toys were popular in the 19th century.
Dating back to ancient China and India, where they were most often carved from soft wood, the western balancing toys were traditionally made from tin or metal.
Illustrations of balancing toys can be found in educational literature from the 18th century.

I bought this as a gift for a surfer-friend. The statue is a lot smaller than I anticipated, and it doesn’t really “surf”. Based on the way the statue looks – and the fact that it’s called “MOTION” Art – I assumed that the surfer would be able to swing or move, replicating a surfing-type motion.
