“Ghost Rider” Charges a Big Wave in Nazaré, Portugal

December 12, 2017 – Nazaré, Portugal.
An unmanned Surfboard casually rides a Huge Wave by itself, after a Surfer has fallen off board moments before, the bizarre moment happened last Tuesday during a Big Wave session in Praia do Norte, Nazaré – Portugal.

The unusual ride was soon nicknamed as the “Ghost Rider Wave”, by the locals in Praia do Norte, as it’s very uncommon to watch a surfboard riding a wave so perfectly, for so long during the most critical part of the wave. The surfboard belong to Brazilian Waterman, Kalani Lattanzi, who missed what could have been the wave of the day, during a session that was not the biggest of the season but still registered several waves above 45ft. The “Ghost Ride” was one of the highlights of the session.

Praia do Norte beach, near the fishing village of Nazaré, has become famous for huge waves since Hawaiian surfer Garrett McNamara set a then record in 2011 for the largest wave ever surfed when he rode a 78-foot wave.
