MASSIVE surf pounds San Diego
One of the largest swells in the past 15 years hit the west coast on Friday January 6, 2023.
Thanks to surf forecaster Mike Durand with SwellMagnet for helping me sort out where to go for this swell. I was torn between Rincon and San Diego and opted to go where it would be biggest.

Why didn't you paddle out you wimp? How many surf photogs don't actually charge it themselves (or ride boogies)? Relatively easy wave with a nice bowl section. Sure, not as easy as it looks.

When you say the best waves in 15 years,are you referring to the swell in 2005??…It was so heavy-duty…memory serves me right ,one of the mags cover stated "The best California swell since…ever" That's the best swell since…you think???

I surfed blacks a couple times back in the 1983-84 El nino years. It was easily that big.
Reminded me of the winter of 82-83….you guys are lucky to be out in this swell. Enjoy the ride!

Its one storm after another heading to the west coast. It is non stop. We here near the Grand Canyon are about sick of this. In the last 7 months, we have had maybe 30 days of dry.
Come up to Halfmoon Bay it's big.
