The Mavericks Awards is a digital video performance contest in which big wave surfers and videographers submit their best surf content from Mavericks from the entire winter season. Founded by Jeff Clark and Chris Cuvelier, our mission is to celebrate Mavericks and the brave men and women that surf it. Our values of community, respect, inclusion, equality, safety and environmental stewardship guide all our decisions and how we operate the Mavericks Awards.

Big wave surfers get put in life-threatening situations like these and have to be ready for anything, including being held under water for extended periods of time while remaining calm.
These are just a few examples of what I’ve filmed during big wave swells.

In this video I explain every surfers worst nightmare. I show numerous clips of being caught on the inside of JAWS , Nazare, Mavericks and more to show the beatdowns that pro surfers like Kai lenny take. These are the biggest wave and wipeouts in the world , causing surfers to go over the falls at places like the wedge and teahupo’o. I also give tips on duck diving and breath holding techniques in case you encounter a two wave hold down.
