Brazilian surfer Carlos Burle is waiting to find out if he has surfed the world’s biggest wave. Burle rode the wave, which reportedly reached heights of up to 30 metres, near the fishing village of Nazaré in Portugal. The film shows him riding ahead of the wave, which had swelled from storms. Earlier he had saved the life of another surfer Maya Gabeira, who nearly drowned. British surfer Andrew Cotton also surfed the huge waves in Nazaré

Is This The Most Terrifying Wave Ever Filmed at Nazare? | Clips of the Month Feb. 2020

What does it take to top our “Clips of the Month” list? Well, depends on the month. Wave quality helps. A more technical maneuver or difficult line certainly ups your chances. We can all appreciate a good, kegging barrel. But sometimes the thing that puts a clip over the edge is a little harder to define. Sometimes the winner is simply the clip that causes our jaws to drop and our minds to wonder, “What. The. Actual. F@#$.”

This was one such month. While it was filled with WTF rides, from Tom Lowe’s Euro tunnel to Koa Smith’s below-sea-level screamer, but none was more baffling than the apartment-building-sized tube yawning behind an ant-sized Kai Lenny at Nazare. Justine Dupont Rides the Biggest Wave of Her Life at Nazaré | Praia do Norte, November 13, 2019

Justine Dupont may have broken the Guinness World Record for the biggest wave ever surfed by a female athlete.

On November 13, 2019, the 28-year-old French big wave surfer dropped into a massive wall of water that is estimated to measure between 65 and 68 feet.

“I’m so stoked I made it. It’s a mad, intense wave. It was the greatest ride of my life,” expressed Dupont.

Justine won the 2019 Women’s XXL Performance of the Year Award and Biggest Wave Award, and the 2018 European longboard title.

The surfer from Bordeaux has also been elected Chair of the ISA Athletes’ Commission for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Maya Gabeira holds the current Guinness World Record for the largest wave ever surfed by a female athlete.

On January 18, 2018, the Brazilian daredevil rode a 68-foot (20.72 meters) wave, also in Nazaré, Portugal.
