Pipeline Surf Biggest Day Winter 2014
Pipeline Free Surf 12-13-14. Lapo Coutinho BRA devoured by huge green-eyed monster at 1:32.
With a quickly increasing swell the organizers of the Triple Crown of Surfing called off the Pipe Masters competition for safety reasons. Too wildly inconsistent for the pros but improving soon after for the locals’ free surf session. Many consider this swell to be one of the biggest to grace our shores in years.

When Pipeline is big like what you see in the video, it's a sight to see in person or on video. If you go there for 2-4 weeks during the winter months of Nov-Feb and follow the surf report, and if it says it's going to be big, go there. It's very impressive. I've seen it in person and I was impressed.

How do these guys survive the pounding from the surf? I was boogie boarding waves not even a quarter this size and was getting thrown around and slammed into the sand
Left breaks rule , the Pipeline is the the Standard, I surfed as a "Goofy Foot" Naturally, Great Memories Surfing Great Surf Spots., never surfed the pipeline, but what a Great Surf Spot., Best Wishes to the Surfers that Do.

It just never got good. Trade wind was wrecking the faces and the swell never quite hit the reef right. Another 5 to 10 degrees and the swell would have been hitting well enough to overcome the contrary wind and to carry all the way from the outer reef through the inside.

Pipeline was impressive when I was a teenager in the 80s. Nowadays it pales in comparison to Jaws, Chopu and other classic spots. Even Waimea. Hawaii is no more the haven of surf for many years / decades now.
