In 2018, Anderson Cooper reported from Nazaré, Portugal, a global hub for surfers looking for massive waves. There he met Garrett McNamara, who broke the world record for the largest wave ever surfed in 2011; it was 78 feet high.

As someone with 2,000-plus skydives I can say this is just sick.
I lived on Waimea and surfed it and the North Shore of Oahu an over 25 ft wave tore my surf short off ….surfing gets into you and you can't stop, even a surfboard through my face in Puerto Escondido, MX didn't stop me. Still going on surfing at 54 !!
would never want this fairy interviewing me
2’ bigger? Come on, that’s a joke!
That was badass. Tricks, Fights, fellowship and fun! I would need to to be swaddled in bubble wrap! I take it knee pads and crap are uncool?! HA! Nice video.
Haha, he’s not wrong about krazy-glue👍
Legendary surfer. Mercedes Benz got it right
Real man gets interviewed by Anderson Cooper … priceless
Obliterated! So funny
dude what? Anderson would have been utterly dead if he fell off that jetski in those waves. GMack doesn't look worried at all.
This guy needs a therapist
Garrett is not average, he is batshit crazy and thankfully chose to be a surfer and not a serial killer hahaha
The Ocean is The Master Teacher ~ way to go Garrett~ this is beyond inspirational!!
Get Pitted!!! 😅
Was fortunate enough to meet Garret, Hugo Vau and Rodrigo Xoxa on the streets of Nazare. Three of the most humble guys on the planet.
We need these stories in our lives….we need "brave for serious" & "brave for fun" people always.
Love this. Glad.
Gmac running off the beach onto a SUP and fairing backwards in the water was epic. Waikiki beach stories.
Nathan Florence rides waves like this all the time, and he paddles into them. He rides huge heavy slabs all over the world. He’s humble not like these guys.
Wonderful. I feel like I know him after watching the 100 foot wave series.
He hopped someone on a huge wave and caused a dangerous accident at Cortes bank f that guy
He’s alive for his family! 13:20

I am so happy for the contentment Garrett has found. I pray his daughter will have her dad, and his wife her husband, for a very long time. 🌈💜🇺🇸
Craziest, coolest thing I've ever seen…❤
I would be dragged under by the weight of the poop in my wetsuit.
Surfers are amazing. I find them in the most random places. They have their own 'traveler category that's so unique. So majestic when it's right….. still hope to windsurf one day, I just need a taste of that wind and water then I might be content.
Wave are no joke 5ft waves will put you 15 ft under imagine 15 let alone a 80 ft
