Scooby & Chianca, and Gabeira Victorious At The TUDOR Nazaré Big Wave Challenge | Post Show

A massive building swell and great weather led the way to the wild day of action, which displayed the art of tow surfing, where Lucas Chianca & Pedro Scooby’s teamwork won the day. In addition, Maya Gabeira continued to push the boundaries of Big Wave surfing. Watch as Felecity Palmateer, Ben Mondy and Carlos Burle break it all down.

Nazaré, Portugal is home to the biggest waves on Earth. In the TUDOR Nazaré Big Wave Challenge, two-person teams made up of men and women take turns surfing and driving the jetski as they compete in potentially record-setting surf.

The WSL Big Wave season is the time of year when humans push the boundaries of what’s possible on a surfboard. In the sport’s premier paddle-only event at Jaws and tow surfing challenge at Nazaré, these men and women drop in and charge the impossible for the ride of a lifetime.

Total respect for the strength and skill, but this sport should be a contest between oneself and wave, not each other.

2:41 I was at the contest but had to watch from the beach as I could not access the cliff area…was hoping you would replay the whole contest so I and everyone else could get best views of the action.

@surfershaper says:

WSL, your sound mixing needs a professional engineer Music during highlights covers up the commentators. Unclutter your program and make it watcher friendly

Why didn’t the WSL post the entire contest – all heats? What a huge disappointment to wait all day to watch the contest to see the results blasted in front page of WSL and no place to watch the heats.

It's amazing how Lucas Chumbo deals with this great amount of water! He is next level!

not having a big wave world champ is crazy… i hear the rules changed or something and tahts crazy… i think only the record waves will be rewarded money or something like that…. crazy how wsl is ruining the sport

@sleuththewild says:

Very glad to see Palmateer commenting. WSL generally is VERY stingy at bringing on female commentators.

Wonder if Laird still thinks Maya doesn't belong

@craigbroderick9824 says:

Nobody wants to watch tow in surfing! And your new format for WSL, with the elimination stuff and your final five at the end, no wonder people are quitting! Go back to the old format
