I was waiting for the de rigeur boat capsize – to indicate truly macking Bowls… I saw that once, in a surf movie from the 70's or early 80's (on Betamax, no doubt) – catamaran gets swamped and then flipping over at Alamo. Still legit size, and swell.

We got some of that in Cali, but not so much. The swells from New Zealand/Ross Sea that target Hawaii over the top of Tahiti, tend to get shadowed pretty hard for us… And Wedge, and some of my favorite N. LA spots don't always like the more westerly angle swells, either.

But they tend to get into San Diego better. So there's a give and take.

But for sure, the Tahiti shadow can take up to 75% of the energy, in the window that's good for O'ahu.

So for us, it was a 3 to 4 ft SW. Fun but not crazy big.
