This wall of water has broken the world record as the largest wave ever to be surfed. Brazilian surfer Rodrigo Koxa surfed the 80-foot wave in Nazaré, Portugal.

The feat took place in November 2017 but the wave and surfer are just now being honored by the World Surf League’s Big Wave Awards. Previously, Hawaiian surfer Garrett McNamara held the record of 78 feet in 2011. The beach, named Praia do Norte, lies close to a fishing village of Nazaré and has become known for some of the largest surfing waves in the world.

Big wave surfers are a small, intense group of elite athletes. Amazing! (Although I prefer the purity of paddle-in vs tow-in surfing.)
Koxa's wave 24.38 meters, Garrett's wave 23.77 meters. (Because is hard to put it in the video)
How daring men are they,, is there any woman who can do this??
Surfers are crazy people. They live for waves like this & would be more than happy to die trying to surf them. This was awesome but stupid.
I say if it's a tow in that's not official. It should be largest towed in surfer

Not sure how this got credit as the largest wave surfed. There's video of a 100 foot wave being surfed from Nazare too. Still awesome and impressive, but this is not the largest wave surfed at Nazare.
