Why Norway Stops Surfing | Beaches Off Limits For Surfers Only

Did you know that some of Norway’s best waves are off-limits to surfers during the winter months? It’s all about protecting seabirds—but what does that mean for surfers? In this video, I dive into the reasons behind these bans, share my thoughts on balancing wildlife conservation and surfing, and show some clips from a legal surf spot where birds and surfers coexist. Let me know what you think—should nature always take priority, or is there room for balance?

Actually windsurfing, winging and kitesurfing are all banned within the restricted areas. It is a board sport ban. The ban is to protect what the government say are Europe’s most important resting grounds along the coast for migrating birds and was signed into law by the crown prince himself. Who surfs and kites 😉

Someone came up with a strange idea in the early 2000. We have surfed and windsurfed in south west of norway since 1985. They are nuts

I don't see any harm in surfers and the seabirds co-existing, as clearly shown in your video.
